1. The service
Plant Identifier Online is a website-based tool that lets visitors upload one or more photos of plants or plant material and optionally provide notes, a date found, or a location in order to receive an AI-generated identification result.
Plant Identifier Online is provided for informational and educational purposes only.
By accessing or using Plant Identifier Online, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

If you are under 18, you may not use the service.
3. No account or saved identification
Plant Identifier Online does not provide visitor accounts, saved identifications, or persistent identification chats.
Because the service is designed for one-off, browser-based use, you should not expect to preserve access to past uploads, results, requests, or chats after processing or the current browser session is complete.
4. Permitted use
You may use Plant Identifier Online only for lawful, personal, educational, informational, or other legitimate purposes consistent with these Terms.
You agree not to:
- use the service for any unlawful, fraudulent, abusive, or harmful purpose
- upload content you do not have the right to submit
- upload content that infringes intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights
- submit malware, malicious code, or harmful files
- interfere with, disrupt, probe, overload, or attempt to bypass any security or rate limits on the service
- use bots, scripts, scraping tools, or automated methods to access the service in an unauthorized or excessive manner

We may set or enforce technical limits on use, including limits on request size, number of uploads, or request frequency.
5. Your submissions
You may submit:
- photos
- optional notes
- an optional date found
- an optional location
Photos are required for identification. Notes, date found, and location are optional.
You must ensure that anything you submit:
- is accurate to the best of your knowledge
- does not violate any law or third-party rights
- does not include sensitive, confidential, or highly personal information unless you are willing to accept the risks described in our Privacy Policy
You should keep uploads focused on the plant or plant material you want identified and avoid including unnecessary personal information.
6. Ownership of your content
You retain ownership of the photos, notes, date found, location, and other content you submit ("User Content").
However, by submitting User Content through Plant Identifier Online, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, transmit, modify, and use that User Content only as reasonably necessary to:
- operate the service
- process your request
- generate results
- maintain, secure, monitor, debug, and improve the service
- enforce these Terms
- comply with legal obligations
This includes sending submitted content to our hosting, storage, analytics, security, and AI or model service providers as described in our Privacy Policy.
You represent and warrant that you have all rights necessary to submit the User Content and to grant the license above.
7. AI-generated results
Plant Identifier Online uses third-party AI and model providers, including OpenAI and Google, to help generate identification results.
Results may be inaccurate, incomplete, inconsistent, outdated, or inappropriate for your needs. Different photos or prompts may produce different results.
You acknowledge and agree that:
- identification results are generated automatically
- results are provided on an as is and as available basis
- you are solely responsible for reviewing and evaluating any output before relying on it
8. No professional, safety, medical, agricultural, or legal advice
Plant Identifier Online does not provide professional advice.
The service is not a substitute for professional botanical, horticultural, agricultural, toxicological, medical, poison-control, veterinary, ecological, laboratory, safety, legal, regulatory, or invasive-species advice.
You must not rely on Plant Identifier Online for decisions involving:
- whether any plant or plant material is edible, non-toxic, medicinal, allergen-free, or safe
- whether something is safe to touch, handle, cut, burn, ingest, brew, apply to skin, feed to animals, compost, transport, or dispose of
- suspected poisoning, allergic reactions, illness, symptoms, or emergency situations
- pesticide, herbicide, fertilizer, or other chemical treatment decisions
- protected species, invasive species, harvesting, foraging, land access, or local regulations
- commercial cultivation, sale, labeling, public distribution, or regulatory compliance
- any situation where inaccurate output could lead to harm, loss, injury, illness, poisoning, environmental damage, or liability
Care and growing-condition information is general guidance based on an AI-assisted match. It is not a diagnosis of plant health and may not suit your specific plant, climate, soil, or growing environment.
If you need certainty or expert judgment, consult a qualified local botanist, horticulturist, poison center, medical professional, veterinarian, agricultural adviser, or other appropriate expert.
If you suspect that a plant has been consumed or has caused a harmful exposure, contact a poison center, physician, veterinarian, or emergency services immediately. Plant Identifier Online is not an emergency service and is not intended for urgent use.
9. Outputs
As between you and Plant Identifier Online, and to the extent permitted by applicable law, you may use the results returned by the service for lawful purposes.
However:
- we do not guarantee that outputs are unique
- similar or identical outputs may be generated for other visitors
- we do not warrant that you will have exclusive rights in any output
- your use of any output remains your responsibility
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and retain personal data in connection with Plant Identifier Online.
By using the service, you acknowledge that your personal data may be processed as described in the Privacy Policy.
11. Third-party providers and services
Plant Identifier Online relies on third-party providers to host, secure, analyze, and operate the service, including providers for storage, infrastructure, rate limiting, analytics, support, and AI or model inference.
We are not responsible for third-party services except as required by applicable law. Those providers may have their own terms, policies, and technical practices.
12. Availability, changes, and experimental nature
We may modify, suspend, restrict, or discontinue all or part of Plant Identifier Online at any time, with or without notice.
We do not guarantee that the service will always be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
Features may change over time. Some features or pages may be marked as experimental or limited.
13. Free identification limits
Plant Identifier Online is free to use, subject to usage limits. These limits may apply by minute, hour, day, request size, or number of uploads and may change as needed to operate and protect the service.
If you reach a limit, you must wait until the applicable period resets. The service does not offer a paid upgrade or account-based bypass for these limits.
You may not evade or attempt to bypass usage limits through automation, multiple browser identities, manipulated network requests, or other technical means.
14. Intellectual property in the service
The Plant Identifier Online service, including its design, software, branding, text, graphics, interfaces, compilations, and other content made available by us, is owned by or licensed to us and is protected by applicable intellectual property and other laws.
Except for the limited right to use the service under these Terms, no rights are granted to you.
You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, publicly display, modify, create derivative works from, sell, lease, sublicense, or exploit any part of the service except as permitted by law or with our prior written permission.
15. Feedback
If you send us suggestions, ideas, feedback, or recommendations about the service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, and incorporate that feedback for any lawful purpose without compensation or attribution to you.
16. Suspension and termination
We may suspend, block, restrict, or terminate your access to Plant Identifier Online at any time if we reasonably believe that:
- you violated these Terms
- your use creates risk, harm, legal exposure, or security issues
- your use is abusive, excessive, fraudulent, or unlawful
- suspension is needed to protect the service, visitors, third parties, or us
Because no account is provided, suspension may include blocking access by technical means.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination or suspension will survive, including sections relating to ownership, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, governing law, and dispute resolution.
17. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Plant Identifier Online is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service or these Terms will not exceed USD 100, unless applicable law requires a greater minimum amount.
These limitations apply regardless of the form of action and even if a limited remedy fails of its essential purpose.

19. Indemnity
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Plant Identifier Online from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, judgments, costs, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or related to:

- your violation of any law or third-party right
20. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time.
When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and update the last updated date above. Your continued use of Plant Identifier Online after updated Terms become effective means you agree to the revised Terms, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you must stop using the service.
21. General
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
Our failure to enforce any provision of these Terms is not a waiver of that provision or any other provision.
You may not assign or transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a business transfer, reorganization, sale of assets, or by operation of law.
